  • Why only Melbourne? And why only sober(ish)?
The success of our platform relies on the quality and richness of our community. To ensure you're able to connect with people like you, we're focusing our launch on single groups at a time. To make sure you can join as soon as possible, we suggest requesting an invite and sharing your code with people you know. The more people we have like you in your location, the sooner you'll be able to use Butter.
  • What information do I need to share to join Butter?
When you create an account, you'll be asked to provide your full name, age, postcode and email address. Once your account has been created, you can add additional information like your personal bio, a selection of photos, your gender association and your interests. We don't collect any location data or financial information.
  • Who can join Butter?
Right now we're available exclusively in Melbourne, and solely for the sober, sober curious and sober-ish. As our platform is brand new, we're only accessible to iPhone 12 users and later.
  • How do I make sure my feed is personalised, based on the things I love?
It's as easy as keeping your preferences up-to-date. Open the Explore feed Tap Preferences, located in the top right corner of the feed Select your preferences for the plans you'd like to join, including your interests, the location of the plans, and the age and gender association of the people you'd like to meet These preferences will save to your account until you update them again. Changing your selection will update your feed instantly. We also suggest making sure your interests, age and gender association are up-to-date on your profile, as these are used to curate your plans in others' feeds.
  • How do I update and edit my profile?
Tap on your profile photo in the top left of the Explore feed Settings > Edit Profile Here you'll be able to edit your bio, photos and personal information.
  • How do I add a friend?
We want to create intentional connection, IRL. So, we're a little different to other platforms you've used before; you're not able to add someone else as a friend until you have the intention to meet them in person. This means that once you join a plan, all of the guests - and the host - automatically become friends. Here you're able to create chats with each other, and invite them to future plans.
  • How do I start a chat with someone new?
Head to the search bar in Chat Enter the name of your friend or plan Select them from the list Alternatively, if you're wanting to start a conversation within a plan you're attending Open the plan from Calendar Navigate to Discussion Start a chat This conversation will also appear in Chat, located in the menu bar.
  • How long does it take to create an account?
Create your account and get started on Butter in under 2 minutes. No frills, just simple, speedy onboarding.
  • How do I create a plan?
Tap the + button in the menu bar Sell the dream: get others excited about your plan by providing plenty of detail about why you've created the plan, the agenda, and time and place Select your plan preferences, including the gender association of the people you'd like to meet and how many guests you'd like to attend Add a cover photo that accurately represents your plan Invite friends in the final tab Tap Create plan
  • How do I make my plan stand out?
Here are our top 4 tips: Create a clear, concise name Give your plan a name that tells people exactly what they're in for. We recommend a name no longer than 3-4 words - something like 'Markets & Coffee' is much more eye-catching and prescriptive than 'Saturday Morning Hang Out' or 'Window Shopping'. Sell the dream with a strong description The same goes for the plan description. What do you want to do? Why do you want to do it? What are you looking forward to? Sharing this level of detail will help others to get a better understanding of you, which will lead to better RSVPs, and better connections. Add a cover photo Update the default cover image with a photo that really showcases your plan. For example, in our 'Markets & Coffee' example, you could add a shot of the markets you're attending, or the cafe you'll visit after. Keep in mind this photo will be the first thing people will see, so you want it to look as engaging and exciting as possible. Preferences, preferences, preferences These are crucial to ensuring your plan gets infront of the right people. Make sure you select the 2 interests your plan most relates to, as well as the number of guests and the type of people that you'd like to meet.
  • Can I create a plan with specific people?
You can invite your friends to your plans. To do this: Make plans using the '+' button in the menu bar Add all of your plan detail Navigate to Invite and select the friends you'd like to invite. Tap Create plan Your friends will receive a notification once your plan is published.
  • How do I respond to people who've requested to join my plan?
You can manage your join requests from Calendar. Open your plan Navigate to the Guests tab Here you'll be able to view everyone who's requested to join your plan, their join messages, and manage your responses - from 'Approved' to 'Declined'. The Invite button will also display the number of RSVPs you have remaining, based on the preference you selected. To ensure everyone has a great experience on Butter, make sure you're responding to join requests as quickly as possible. Any pending requests will be highlighted by the pill, located in the bottom right corner of your plan.
  • Where can I see the messages people have left when they've requested to join my plan?
Navigate to Calendar > your plan Tap the Guests tab Here you'll be able to view everyone who's requested to join your plan and view the join messages they've left.
  • How do I join someone's plan?
Open the plan you'd like to join Tap the RSVP button Leave a message for the host. You can skip this step, but you're more likely to become a guest if you leave a personalised message Tap Send request You'll receive a notification if the planner accepts your join request. Until then, you can view your pending RSVPs in Calendar > Pending.
  • Does RSVPing to a plan mean I'm instantly accepted?
RSVPing to a plan acts as a join request, rather than an acceptance into the plan. If the planner accepts your join request, you'll receive a notification and the plan will appear in your Calendar. You'll be able to chat with the guests and view the specific meeting location at this point. If your RSVP is declined, your request will disappear and you won't be permitted to attend the plan.
  • How do I change my RSVP?
Open the plan where you'd like to modify your RSVP Tap the Attending button Select your new RSVP status We ask that you treat your social plans on Butter with the same respect as you would any other social plan. This means, if you need to change your RSVP after you've successfully joined a plan, it's important to send the planner a message to let them know why you're no longer attending. Ghosting isn't cool, and we won't let it become an accepted way of doing things on Butter.
  • Where can I see all the plans I've joined?
Navigate to the Calendar to view all of your upcoming plans, including plans you're attending, plans you've made, and plans you're waiting to be accepted into.
  • Where can I see the plans I'm waiting to be accepted into?
You can view the plans you have pending RSVPs on in Calendar > Pending. Once the host reviews your RSVP, you'll be notified if you've been accepted and the plan will move into Calendar > All Plans.
