Butter exists to make real-life plans easy, intentional, and safe. We’re here for people who show up, respect others, and build community. If that’s you—welcome home.
TL;DR

Be decent: No harassment, hate, or creeps.

Respond quickly and commit: Don’t ghost plans.

Keep everyone in the loop: When things change, let people know ASAP.

Participate with intent: Be present, actively engage, respect people's time.

Keep it legal & safe: Hosts set the tone; everyone follows the law.

Respect privacy: Don’t use member info for anything off-purpose.

Money stuff: Tickets = real bookings. Peer-to-peer payments are optional and final.

We’ll enforce: Warnings → suspensions → removal.
How we use it
We collect and use your personal information for purposes including to:

Provide and operate the Application and services

Process payments, ticketing, and peer-to-peer payments via our third-party payment processor (Stripe)

Facilitate your participation in clubs, plans, and events

Communicate with you about your account, plans, and events (transactional notices)

Send you marketing communications where you have not opted out

Improve the Application, analyse usage trends, and run advertising campaigns

Comply with legal obligations
You may opt out of marketing communications at any time. You will still receive transactional messages necessary to use the Application (e.g. plan reminders, payment confirmations).
Respect & inclusion (non-negotiable)

Zero tolerance for harassment, hate speech, discrimination, threats, stalking, or sexual misconduct.

Be considerate of different backgrounds, identities, and comfort levels.

If someone sets a boundary, honour it - immediately.
Show-up culture

If you RSVP or buy a ticket, plan to be there.

Can’t make it? Cancel early in-app so someone else can take your spot.
-
No-show patterns (e.g. 2+ within 60 days) may trigger account limits or suspension.
Safety at plans

Follow the Host’s instructions and venue rules.
-
Illegal activity, weapons, hard drugs, and reckless behaviour aren’t allowed - ever.

If alcohol is present: 18+ only, know your limits, look after your friends.

Feeling unsafe? Leave, then report it in-app or to hello@joinbutter.co.
Photos, content & consent

Ask before posting identifiable photos/videos of others.
-
Don’t share private group info onto public channels without permission.
-
No doxxing, no recording without consent in private settings.
Messaging etiquette (DMs & chats)

Be friendly, direct, and on-topic for the plan or club.
-
No spamming, multi-level marketing, or cold-selling.
-
Unwanted advances? Stop when asked. Repeatedly pushing = violation.
Data & privacy (the short version)

Hosts receive only what they need to run the plan (e.g., name, RSVP, contact).

Hosts must not use member info for unrelated marketing without explicit consent.

Money: tickets, peer-to-peer payments, refunds
-
Tickets are real bookings with the Host; Butter facilitates payment via Stripe.

Peer-to-peer payments are optional to Hosts or Guests, and are final (non-refundable except as required by law).

Refunds: only if the event is cancelled, rescheduled (and you can’t make it), or cannot be supplied as advertised.

Service/processing fees are non-refundable, except where required by law.

Host standards (for club owners & planners)
-
List accurate details (date, time, location, capacity, pricing, age limits).

Run safe, lawful, inclusive events; manage the room and set culture.
-
Create a welcoming, approachable space both online and offline.
-
Honour refunds in line with Butter policy & Australian Consumer Law.

Don’t export member data for off-platform marketing without explicit consent.

If you need to change or cancel, notify promptly in-app so guests aren’t left uncertain.
Prohibited content & activity

Illegal activities; hate/extremism; sexual content involving minors; exploitation.

Ticket scalping/resale outside permitted tools.
-
Impersonation, phishing, or attempts to access others’ accounts.
-
Any third-party T&Cs you agree to (venues, permits) must be respected.
Age & ID

Butter is 18+.
-
Some events may require ID checks; Hosts can refuse entry if legal requirements aren’t met.
Reporting & support

Use Report in-app or email hello@joinbutter.co for safety issues, rule violations, or concerns.

For immediate danger, contact 000 first, then tell us.
Enforcement (how we act)

We investigate fairly and act proportionately. Possible outcomes:

Education/Warning (for minor first-time issues)

Feature limits (e.g., posting, hosting, or DM restrictions)

Temporary suspension
-
Permanent removal
-
We may remove content, cancel events, or withhold payouts where we reasonably believe there’s fraud, safety risk, or policy breach.
Appeals

Think we got it wrong? Reply to our notice or email hello@joinbutter.co with context. We review appeals in good faith.
Updates
We improve these Guidelines as Butter grows. Material changes will be announced in-app or on our site and apply going forward.
